LAST CHANCE FOR ANIMALS
HISTORY & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Since its formation in 1984, Last Chance for Animals (LCA) has succeeded as one of the nation’s pioneer animal advocacy organizations. LCA’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has worked with prosecutors nationwide to put animal abusers behind bars. LCA’s educational and public outreach programs have empowered the public to make positive changes for the animals in their own communities.

1988:

• To end the accusation that animal rights groups fabricate stories about animal research laboratories, LCA took a camera crew into UCLA's Brain Research Institute, where cats were being used as research subjects. The horror of animal research was exposed on the national television show 48 Hours and on CNN, turning the tide in media and public perception of vivisection.

STRAIGHT FROM DEALINGDOG'S WEBSITE:

For nearly three decades, Chris DeRose has been an international leader in the animal rights movement, and an inspiration and consultant to countless other individuals and groups dedicated to the animal cause. In 1984, he founded Last Chance for Animals (LCA), a national, nonprofit animal advocacy organization focused on investigating, exposing, and ending animal exploitation.

Chris had a promising future as an actor, a profession he eventually turned his back on; instead he chose to devote 100% of his time to saving animals and educating people about animal abuse. For ten years, using the power of the media, he worked as a reporter and special correspondent for TV’s Hard Copy. By the time Hard Copy left the air in 1999, Chris had contributed to more than 150 animal stories on the show that reached millions of people. LAST CHANCE FOR ANIMALS
MISSION STATEMENT

Last Chance for Animals (LCA), a national animal rights organization based in Los Angeles, has been active for almost three decades. Founded and led by animal expert, author, and actor, Chris DeRose, LCA's roots began in exposing the inherent cruelty of vivisection.

  • LCA fights for the rights of animals by conducting investigations that expose animal cruelty, launching public awareness campaigns, pushing animal friendly legislation, and helping prosecute animal abusers.
  • LCA recognizes all living beings as possessing intrinsic value and, as such, they are entitled to certain basic rights.
  • LCA believes that non-human animals are sentient individuals and should not be subjected to exploitation by humans.
  • LCA does not accept a difference in species as justification or wanton exploitation or oppression for any purpose.
  • LCA opposes the use of animals for food, entertainment, clothing and scientific curiosity. In addition, LCA recognizes the use of non-human animals in experimentation designed to cure human disease as both immoral and of questionable scientific validity.
  • LCA advocates conscious and informed lifestyle decisions and is committed to disseminating truthful information about animal abuse in order to improve the manner in which animals are treated in society.

Are Live Dogs and Cats Used as Bait
to Hunt Sharks in the Indian Ocean?
Snopes claims the photo is not real and challenges the claims of the story, but legitimate sources say dogs were, in fact, used as shark bait.

Below is a youtube video where kittens are photographed being used as bait for the fun of fisherman at sea. Be warned: It is graphic! This is so depraved!
Source below by Jo Singer

"Reunion Island is a French controlled territory off the coast of Southern Africa, located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar."

[This is part of Jo's writing:]
Reha Hutin, president of the Thirty Million Friends Foundation, an animal rights group, said in a 2005 article in the National Geographic that Reunion has a huge population of stray dogs, which reaches over 150,000. Ms. Hutin sent a film crew to Reunion to verify the facts that live animals were being used as bait to hunt sharks and if true to expose the practice on the animal rights' group weekly television show.

This film crew found three separate cases of dogs with multiple hooks embedded in their snouts and paws. Ms. Hutin went on the say, "From then on everyone started to take the whole story seriously and realized it was true."

Upon release of the story, the Brigette Bardot Foundation, a Paris-basedanimal welfare group's spokesperson, Stephanie Roche confirmed that live animals were being used as bait on Reunion. But shortly thereafter it became illegal for live or dead dogs or cats to be carried in fishing boats. A written statement was issued by the French Embassy in Washington D.C. condemning the use of dogs as shark bait, stressing that these acts are illegal and are not tolerated in the French territory. The Embassy stated that these are "very isolated cases and authorities on the island are closely monitoring the situation." READ MORE

Day 1 - Hank immediately greeting my daughter!
Above is Hank greeting my daughter in the first few minutes of meeting us yesterday. An immediate bond was struck between the two of them.
This was Day 2 with Hank after a peaceful night of good sleep for all of us. Pictured is Hank and my daughter out for a mile walk around the park. He's good around other dogs and people. We're working on getting him to accept our sweet kitty. If you live in the Denver, Colorado area and are interested in adopting a great dog, email me. He's a Treeing Walker Hound. He's had a rough life. Often when these dogs don't meet with approval as hunting dogs they are beaten and left to die. Hank was found as a stray in Missouri and has gone from one shelter to another. He's amazingly sweet and loves human companionship. He's a quick learner too.
Hank is learning to accept kitty :) It's kitty's first time being in a house with a dog. They're both doing well, though a close eye is kept at all times.
Hank loves human companionship. He's a quick learner and always seeks to please and to understand. He's great in the car. Loves to cuddle. Walks well on a gentle lead. He's 2 or 3 years old. He's not a barker but he will alert you and seems to make a good protector.
Hank is such a cuddler. He loves being near my daughter and resting his head on her. Animals are so healing. Their love is so unconditional and non-judgmental. The world is a better place because of them!

MY HOPE FOR 2012 01/06/2012

“Until he extends the circle of his compassion
to all living things, man will not himself find peace.”
― Albert Schweitzer

From nature's walk today ...

"In the past we have tried to make a distinction between animals which we acknowledge have some value and other which, having none, can be liquidated when we wish. This standard must be abandoned. Everything that lives has value simply as a living thing, as one of the manifestations of the mystery that is life."
Albert Schweitzer

DO YOU BELIEVE ANIMALS DESERVE BASIC LEGAL RIGHTS?

From The Animal Legal Defense Fund
"Deprived of legal protection, animals are defenseless against exploitation and abuse by humans. Through the Animal Bill of Rights, the Animal Legal Defense Fund is working to show Congress a groundswell of support for legislation that protects animals and recognizes that, like all sentient beings, animals are entitled to basic legal rights in our society.

More than a quarter-million Americans have already signed the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Animal Bill of Rights. Sign on your support and speak out to your lawmakers today!"
