HISTORY & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Since its formation in 1984, Last Chance for Animals (LCA) has succeeded as one of the nation’s pioneer animal advocacy organizations. LCA’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has worked with prosecutors nationwide to put animal abusers behind bars. LCA’s educational and public outreach programs have empowered the public to make positive changes for the animals in their own communities.
1988:
• To end the accusation that animal rights groups fabricate stories about animal research laboratories, LCA took a camera crew into UCLA's Brain Research Institute, where cats were being used as research subjects. The horror of animal research was exposed on the national television show 48 Hours and on CNN, turning the tide in media and public perception of vivisection.

For nearly three decades, Chris DeRose has been an international leader in the animal rights movement, and an inspiration and consultant to countless other individuals and groups dedicated to the animal cause. In 1984, he founded Last Chance for Animals (LCA), a national, nonprofit animal advocacy organization focused on investigating, exposing, and ending animal exploitation.
Chris had a promising future as an actor, a profession he eventually turned his back on; instead he chose to devote 100% of his time to saving animals and educating people about animal abuse. For ten years, using the power of the media, he worked as a reporter and special correspondent for TV’s Hard Copy. MISSION STATEMENT
Last Chance for Animals (LCA), a national animal rights organization based in Los Angeles, has been active for almost three decades. Founded and led by animal expert, author, and actor, Chris DeRose, LCA's roots began in exposing the inherent cruelty of vivisection.
- LCA fights for the rights of animals by conducting investigations that expose animal cruelty, launching public awareness campaigns, pushing animal friendly legislation, and helping prosecute animal abusers.
- LCA recognizes all living beings as possessing intrinsic value and, as such, they are entitled to certain basic rights.
- LCA believes that non-human animals are sentient individuals and should not be subjected to exploitation by humans.
- LCA does not accept a difference in species as justification or wanton exploitation or oppression for any purpose.
- LCA opposes the use of animals for food, entertainment, clothing and scientific curiosity. In addition, LCA recognizes the use of non-human animals in experimentation designed to cure human disease as both immoral and of questionable scientific validity.
- LCA advocates conscious and informed lifestyle decisions and is committed to disseminating truthful information about animal abuse in order to improve the manner in which animals are treated in society.
